Dear Parents,
Welcome to all new and returning parents to our start of another year at Round Rock Christian Academy! I am very excited to begin my fifth year teaching here and look forward to spending a year with your children.
I have always loved teaching and have had a mixed background of experience and locations. I began teaching English as a second language for three years at Ball State University in Indiana after a three year stint as a missionary in Argentina. While in Indiana, I worked with the local public school system with K-12 ESL students as well as a youth minister with my church. On receiving my Masters in TESOL and Linguistics, I taught Spanish for three years at the same university. Now, I am working on a PhD in foreign language education and still teaching Spanish and Bible here at RRCA.
I am blessed to be married to my wife, Cristy, herself a teacher from Buenos Aires, Argentina, who has occasionally brought her own cultural experience to our classes. We have four small children (aged 2 through 9), as well as her parents, making for a busy and exciting home. Together we work with the children’s ministry at True Life Fellowship in Round Rock.
In regards to my teaching methods, I have found that consistent practice and daily use go much further than a one night cramming session. Consequently, I will assign regular homework, available both on RenWeb as well as the webpage. Be sure to review our syllabus and documents there on a regular basis to stay in touch with our class. Throughout the year I will attempt give the students every opportunity and tool available to help facilitate their ownership of the learning process.
I ask that you would partner with me to bless the educational experience of your child this year. Foremost I ask that you would pray for me and this class. My prayer and hope is that God uses me this year to heighten your children’s comprehension of His word, the Spanish language & open their eyes to His wonders within the Hispanic world and abroad. I look forward to working with you in your child’s educational experience.
Many Blessings,
Jared Abels
