10th grade Bible class with Mr. Abels
The purpose of the high school Bible classes is to give students the tools they need to study God’s Word in order to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ and to develop a more intimate relationship with Him. It is our desire to guide students toward an ever-growing faith as well as obedience and service to our Lord. Through the study and application of Biblical principles, studies written by a variety of Christian authors, and Scripture memorization, students will have the opportunity to develop such a growing relationship with our Lord. Furthermore, it is our goal (and challenge) as Bible teachers to model and exemplify Christ through our own daily walk and witness and to encourage each student to develop his or her own walk with the Lord through participation in a local church and personal Bible study (character studies, Biblical history, research) outside of class.
First Semester: As the year begins, sophomores study evangelism through an in-depth look at the book of Acts. From Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth, the gospel message has been carried by missionaries of many abilities, backgrounds and giftings. Students are prepared to share the good news of Jesus Christ with a lost world by first examining how this was done within the first church. Supplemental readings, videos, tract creation, and other witnessing strategies will be discussed throughout the semester. Our prayer and goal is to empower the students to become bold witnesses who, through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, will lead others to Christ.
Second Semester: The year concludes by inviting students to explore faith and discipleship through an anthology of contemporary and classic writings. From C.S. Lewis to Tony Campolo and Saint Augustine, multiple stories, poems and teachings will challenge learners to address issues in believing, counting the cost, living the Christian life, growing in faith, sharing their faith, serving and relating to others, and worship. Students will apply this knowledge through class discussions, projects and service within our community. Our prayer is that these students not only achieve a greater depth to their faith, but that they learn to seek God, finding new ways to grow and build on that faith.
